National Conference of Deputy Mayors to be held in Biratnagar

BIRATNAGAR: The National Conference of Deputy Mayors is set to take place in Biratnagar on June 6 and 7.

Shilpa Nirala Karki, Deputy Mayor of Biratnagar Metropolitan City, said the event is being organized to address the challenges faced by deputy mayors across the country and to discuss possible solutions.

Biratnagar Metropolitan City has begun internal preparations for the event. Deputy Mayor Karki noted that while Kathmandu Metropolitan City hosted the last national conference, Biratnagar has taken the lead this year.

According to her, the two-day conference will feature presentations, panel discussions, and in-depth dialogue on various responsibilities of deputy mayors, including monitoring, revenue collection, and the functioning of judicial committees.

Deputy Mayor Karki also mentioned that efforts are being made to compile a list of legal challenges deputy mayors encounter in their roles.

These issues, along with proposed legal amendments, will be documented and submitted to the government with concrete suggestions.

“The list of participating deputy chiefs from across the country is currently being compiled,” she said, adding that the final number of attendees will be confirmed by June 23.

Preparations are also underway to arrange accommodations, with initial talks being held with hotels in Biratnagar. The Koshi Provincial Government is supporting the event, which will be hosted at Birendra Hall and organized by Biratnagar Metropolitan City.
