Gwarko overpass nears completion

LALITPUR: The overpass under construction at Gwarko in Lalitpur is nearing completion and is expected to be ready for vehicular movement by June.

According to project officials, the work is in its final stages.

The construction company involved in the project has stated that it plans to complete all remaining work and hand over the overpass to the government by May 29.

Despite the original contract deadline having passed, the project saw a one-year extension but still failed to meet the revised deadline. As a result, the Department of Roads has been imposing penalties on the contractor since December 2024 .

The original contract with Ashish–Samanantar JV was signed on February 24, 2022, with a two-year completion timeline. The first deadline expired in February 2024 and was later extended to December 24, 2024.

Once completed, vehicles traveling along the Kalanki–Koteshwor section of the Ring Road will use the overpass, while those heading toward Lamatar and Patan via Gwarko will use the underpass section.

The new overpass is expected to significantly ease traffic congestion and improve safe, convenient, and organized transportation on major routes, including the Satdobato–Koteshwor section of the Ring Road and the Mangalbazaar–Imadol–Lubhu corridor.
