Foreign Minister returns from India, denies rumors of political interference

KATHMANDU: Foreign Minister Dr. Arzu Rana has returned to Nepal after a nearly 12-day visit to India, during which she attended the Raisina Dialogue in New Delhi from March 17 to 20.

Speaking to journalists at Tribhuvan International Airport, Minister Rana said that her visit aimed to strengthen diplomatic relations between the two countries.

She mentioned meeting her Indian counterpart, S. Jaishankar, but clarified that there was no meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as she had not requested one.

Addressing speculations regarding India’s influence in Nepal’s political landscape, Rana dismissed rumors of Indian attempts to alter the coalition government of the Nepali Congress and UML. She added that India has consistently supported Nepal’s democratic system and emphasized that there was no basis for the rumors.

“There is no hope of India bringing about a change in government,” Rana said. “India has always believed in the democratic system in Nepal.”
