UML leader Mahesh Bartaula blames President Paudel for House dissolution

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML leader Mahesh Bartaula has claimed that the dissolution of the House of Representatives occurred due to constitutional lapses and negligence on the part of President Ram Chandra Paudel.

Issuing a statement on Saturday, Bartaula said that the President, who holds the responsibility of being the guardian and protector of the Constitution, failed in her constitutional duties, leading to the dissolution of the House.

He said the President should correct the mistake and herself announce the restoration of Parliament.

“This is not merely the dissolution of Parliament; it is a naked attack on the soul of democracy and a blow to the sovereignty vested in the people,” the statement read. However, Bartaula also noted that dozens of writ petitions related to constitutional scrutiny and remedy have already been filed and are currently under consideration by the courts.

Arguing that there is no need to wait for a court verdict, Bartaula maintained that the President can take the initiative to correct the constitutional error on her own.
