Thunderstorms expected today and tomorrow



KATHMANDU: The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has warned of storms accompanied by thunder, lightning, and strong winds in various parts of the country today, Tuesday.

According to the Department’s Weather Forecasting Division, Nepal is currently under the influence of westerly and local winds, as well as a low-pressure system near the eastern region.

The weather is generally cloudy in the hilly areas of Lumbini and Sudurpaschim provinces, while the rest of the country is mostly clear. Light rainfall has been reported in one or two places in the hilly areas of Gandaki Province.

This afternoon, hilly and mountainous regions, including Koshi and Madhes provinces, are expected to remain generally cloudy, while the Terai region will see partly cloudy skies.

There is a possibility of moderate rain and snowfall, accompanied by thunder, lightning, gusty winds, and hail, at some places in the hilly and mountainous regions, including Koshi Province, and at a few locations elsewhere.

Tonight, mountainous regions, including Koshi Province, will remain generally cloudy. Hilly areas will be partly cloudy, and the Terai region will have mostly clear skies. Light rain and snowfall, along with thunder and lightning, are possible at one or two places in the mountainous regions of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Karnali provinces.
