Gen-Z coalition submits memo to President Paudel, accuses Interim PM Karki of ignoring core demands
Twenty-three organizations affiliated with the Gen-Z movement have submitted a memorandum to President Ram Chandra Paudel, accusing the Sushila Karki-led interim government of sidelining the fundamental demands of the rebellion. The groups argue that although the interim government was formed in the aftermath of the September 8–9 Gen-Z uprising, it has failed to fulfill even minimum commitments.
PM Sushila Karki convenes National Security Council meeting amid rising security concerns
Prime Minister Sushila Karki has called a meeting of the National Security Council following rising security sensitivities in Bara and other parts of the country. The meeting comes at a time when the Nepali Congress and CPN-UML have expressed concerns that the March 5 elections could be affected by the deteriorating security environment. The Council meeting is being held on Thursday afternoon at the NSC Secretariat in Singha Durbar.
Security Council meeting: Recommendation to deploy army for election
The National Security Council has decided to recommend to the Council of Ministers the deployment of the Nepal Army for the upcoming House of Representatives election scheduled for March 5. The decision was taken during the 41st meeting of the National Security Council held on Thursday at Singha Durbar. The meeting resolved to recommend army deployment in accordance with Article 266(1) of the Constitution of Nepal to ensure that the election is conducted in a free, fair, and fear-free environment.
Government and Bancharedanda residents reach 11-point agreement; Kathmandu waste collection to resume
The government and the residents of Bancharedanda have reached an 11-point agreement. The discussions held on Thursday at Singha Durbar between government officials and local representatives concluded with a formal deal addressing long-standing concerns related to the landfill site. According to the agreement, the government will immediately review and correspond regarding cases filed against local residents in the past. It will also instruct the consultant company to expedite the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report and obtain a written commitment. Both sides have agreed to allocate the required budget for land acquisition in the next fiscal year, based on the EIA report.
NPL: Lumbini Lions chase down 143 to beat Chitwan Rhinos by six wickets
Lumbini Lions kicked off the second edition of the Nepal Premier League (NPL) with a six-wicket victory over Chitwan Rhinos at TU International Cricket Stadium, Kirtipur, on Thursday. KMC directs departments to submit progress report of flagship and priority projects within three days
Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) Chief Administrative Officer Saroj Guragain has directed all departments to submit progress details of the city’s flagship and priority projects within three days. Speaking at a joint meeting with department heads and focal persons on Thursday, Guragain stressed stronger internal communication and coordination. He instructed each unit to present the current status of projects, expected completion timelines, and solutions to any problems that have delayed implementation. These reports must be submitted to the Urban Planning Commission, the Monitoring and Evaluation Unit, and the Chief Administrative Officer’s Secretariat.
UML will not tolerate terror-like acts carried out in the name of movements: Basnet
CPN-UML Politburo member Mahesh Basnet has said the party will counter obstructions through resistance, even as it remains open to criticism. Speaking at a national inter-campus men’s volleyball tournament organized by the Free Students Union of RR Campus in Kathmandu on Thursday, Basnet said UML is willing to accept criticism and correct its shortcomings, but will not tolerate obstructions without fault. He claimed resistance against such obstruction is part of the party’s principle.
Oli intensifies internal meetings in Bhaktapur as he pushes for third term as UML Chair
CPN-UML Chair KP Sharma Oli has intensified internal consultations as he prepares to seek a third term at the party’s upcoming 11th General Convention, scheduled to begin on December 13 in Kathmandu. According to a leader close to him, Oli recently summoned his loyalists to Gundu, Bhaktapur, where he urged them to stay fully prepared for the convention. The closed-door meeting, described as strategic and tightly coordinated, focused on consolidating support within the party and finalizing an internal roadmap ahead of the leadership contest.
Oli submits written response to SC, terms Karki appointment and parliament dissolution unconstitutional
CPN-UML Chair KP Sharma Oli has submitted a written response to the Supreme Court regarding the reinstatement of the House of Representatives, alleging that the appointment of Prime Minister Sushila Karki and the dissolution of parliament were unconstitutional. In his response, Oli claimed that the unrest and arson under the banner of the Gen-Z movement on September 8 and 9 benefited the current Prime Minister and cabinet members, making them responsible for creating the situation. He argued that Karki and her ministers seized state power through both visible and invisible means, violating constitutional procedures.
Prachanda urges restraint in Simara, calls for peaceful environment ahead of polls
Nepali Communist Party Coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has urged all sides to exercise restraint and prevent the protests in Bara’s Simara from escalating into further violence. In a statement issued on Thursday, Dahal said political and ideological differences are natural in a democracy, but turning such disagreements into violence or provocation does not align with democratic culture.
Nepal rescues 37 citizens from Myanmar, returns them from Thailand
The Nepali Embassy has successfully rescued 37 Nepali nationals who fled Myanmar and reached Thailand, returning them to Nepal on Thursday via Nepal Airlines flight RA402. According to the embassy, the rescued individuals had gone to Myanmar under the pretext of attractive job opportunities. Instead, they were forced to work in illegal online scam operations, including dating scams, casinos, gaming, phishing, and crypto fraud.
NEPSE dips slightly as turnover reaches Rs 4.68 billion
The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) edged down by a marginal 0.93 points on Thursday, with total transactions amounting to Rs 4.68 billion. Out of all the companies traded today, the share prices of 138 companies declined, while 112 recorded gains. Six companies saw no change in their stock prices.
10 injured in Simara as Gen-Z protest turns violent; curfew defied for second day
The situation around Simara Airport and Jitpur-Simara areas remained tense on Thursday as the Gen-Z protest escalated despite the district administration’s curfew order. The District Administration Office, Bara, had imposed a curfew from 1 pm to 8 pm to prevent possible loss of life and property. However, the prohibitory order failed to take effect, with demonstrators pouring into the streets and clashing with police.
Two ward chairs arrested over attack on Gen-Z youth in Simara
Police have arrested two local representatives in Simara following an attack on Gen-Z youth on Wednesday. Dhan Bahadur Shrestha, ward chair of Jeetpur Simara Sub-Metropolitan City-2, and Kaimuddin Ansari of Ward No. 6 were taken into custody in connection with the incident.
Ishwar Pokhrel to formally announce candidacy for UML chair in Secretariat meeting
Senior Vice-Chair of UML, Ishwar Pokhrel, is expected to formally inform the UML Secretariat about his decision to contest for the party chair. Pokhrel’s announcement sets up a direct challenge to incumbent Chair KP Sharma Oli, who is seeking a third term as the party leader. Vehicular movement suspended for two nights on Narayani River bridge section
Vehicular movement will be halted for two consecutive nights along the Narayani River bridge area connecting Nawalpur and Chitwan on the Narayanghat–Butwal section of the East-West Highway. The road will be closed from 11:00 pm to 4:00 am on November 21 and 22 to carry out blacktopping works on the western approach road to the Narayani River bridge.
35 Nepalis deported from the US arrive in Kathmandu
Thirty-five Nepalis deported from the United States arrived in Kathmandu on Wednesday via an American-chartered plane. Under the policies implemented during former President Donald Trump’s administration, the US has been deporting foreign nationals living in the country illegally. Many Nepalis have been deported previously. The 35 returnees were taken to the Human Trafficking Investigation Bureau by the Immigration Office.
