Prachanda urges restraint in Simara, calls for peaceful environment ahead of polls

KATHMANDU: Nepali Communist Party Coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has urged all sides to exercise restraint and prevent the protests in Bara’s Simara from escalating into further violence.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Dahal said political and ideological differences are natural in a democracy, but turning such disagreements into violence or provocation does not align with democratic culture.

He said political parties and their leaders must be allowed to move freely, conduct meetings and hold programs without obstruction.

“I draw the government’s attention to ensuring an atmosphere where political and speech freedoms are respected, allowing parties and leaders to move and conduct activities without hindrance,” the statement reads.

Dahal also appealed to all sides to remain cautious and responsible so that no incident negatively affects the upcoming elections. He emphasized the need to safeguard a peaceful and fair electoral environment.

Directing local party committees, Dahal instructed them to play a supportive and facilitative role in easing the tense situation and restoring normalcy amid the unfolding developments in the country.
