UML will not tolerate terror-like acts carried out in the name of movements: Basnet

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Politburo member Mahesh Basnet has said the party will counter obstructions through resistance, even as it remains open to criticism.

Speaking at a national inter-campus men’s volleyball tournament organized by the Free Students Union of RR Campus in Kathmandu on Thursday, Basnet said UML is willing to accept criticism and correct its shortcomings, but will not tolerate obstructions without fault. He claimed resistance against such obstruction is part of the party’s principle.

Basnet also stated that UML cannot support what he described as terror-like activities carried out in the name of movements, stressing the need for an impartial investigation into recent incidents of unrest.

He further alleged that social media is being misused to destabilize Nepal and that international powers are attempting to turn the country into their playing field.

A brief disruption occurred during his remarks when a youth protested in front of the stage. Police immediately intervened and took the protester into custody.
