Gen-Z coalition submits memo to President Paudel, accuses Interim PM Karki of ignoring core demands

KATHMANDU: Twenty-three organizations affiliated with the Gen-Z movement have submitted a memorandum to President Ram Chandra Paudel, accusing the Sushila Karki-led interim government of sidelining the fundamental demands of the rebellion.

The groups argue that although the interim government was formed in the aftermath of the September 8–9 Gen-Z uprising, it has failed to fulfill even minimum commitments.

In the memorandum, the coalition has outlined five major expectations: action against major corruption cases, constitutional amendments to introduce a directly elected Prime Minister, punitive measures against those involved in the alleged massacre during the uprising, medical treatment for the injured, and appropriate compensation for the families of those declared martyrs.

The groups allege that the government has ignored all these expectations and is solely focused on holding elections. They say the Gen-Z rebellion was not aimed only at early polls but at achieving systemic change.

The coalition has urged the government to immediately address their demands, arguing that the President should mediate in forming a new government if the current one fails to deliver. The memorandum also warns of launching the next phase of peaceful protests if their demands go unmet.
