KMC directs departments to submit progress report of flagship and priority projects within three days

KATHMANDU: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) Chief Administrative Officer Saroj Guragain has directed all departments to submit progress details of the city’s flagship and priority projects within three days.

Speaking at a joint meeting with department heads and focal persons on Thursday, Guragain stressed stronger internal communication and coordination. He instructed each unit to present the current status of projects, expected completion timelines, and solutions to any problems that have delayed implementation. These reports must be submitted to the Urban Planning Commission, the Monitoring and Evaluation Unit, and the Chief Administrative Officer’s Secretariat.

Reviewing programs approved for the ongoing fiscal year, Guragain said projects that should have entered the procurement phase by the end of Kartik must begin within the next 15 days. Officials failing to push such plans forward will be required to justify the delay in the next review.

Administrative Department Head Dhruva Kumar Kafle noted that poor internal communication has hindered proper documentation of achievements and called for stronger coordination.

KMC has categorized programs linked to citizens’ daily lives, health, education, employment promotion, environmental improvement, and infrastructure development, as pride projects. Regular public-service programs requiring continued operation have been placed under priority plans. The classification is intended to streamline implementation and allow measurable evaluation based on performance indicators.

The metropolis has 11 pride projects and 30 priority plans, first presented through the Appropriation Bill during the 13th Municipal Assembly.

Under the pride projects, programs such as “Ujyaloo Sahar,” “Dust-Free Roads,” and “Wastewater-Free Rivers and Drains” fall under the Public Construction Department. “Metropolitan Visibility System” and “Online Services for Good Governance” are being implemented by the IT Department. Heritage restoration, tourism promotion, employment generation, greenery campaigns, accessible healthcare, and skill-oriented education are handled by respective departments.

Among the 30 priority plans, heritage conservation, cultural promotion, tourism development, social support schemes, sports infrastructure, environmental cleanup, public health services, smart road safety, administrative reforms, school improvement programs, drinking water and sanitation, disaster response, research initiatives, legal facilitation, revenue modernization, agriculture support, and cooperative-based retail services are being implemented by their respective units.
