10 injured in Simara as Gen-Z protest turns violent; curfew defied for second day

SIMARA: The situation around Simara Airport and Jitpur-Simara areas remained tense on Thursday as the Gen-Z protest escalated despite the district administration’s curfew order.

The District Administration Office, Bara, had imposed a curfew from 1 pm to 8 pm to prevent possible loss of life and property. However, the prohibitory order failed to take effect, with demonstrators pouring into the streets and clashing with police.

Authorities fired six tear gas canisters and two rounds of aerial fire after protesters defied the curfew and continued advancing. Protesters also pelted stones at security forces, injuring six police personnel, while four Gen-Z protesters were also reported injured.

Tensions rose further after a group of youths attempted to move from Simara Chowk toward the airport but were stopped by local residents.

In a separate incident, the Gen-Z demonstrators set fire to the police beat in Simara Bazaar. Items from the UML office were also removed and torched by protesters, accusing police of hesitating to arrest UML cadres involved in earlier clashes.

Meanwhile, Bara’s Chief District Officer Dharmendra Mishra called Gen-Z Bara coordinator Samrat Upadhyaya for dialogue, urging that the crisis should be resolved through communication rather than confrontation.
