Street unrest continues in Simara

SIMARA: Bara’s Simara area remains tense following clashes between CPN-UML supporters and Gen-Z activists on Wednesday. The confrontation, which erupted during a local political event, led to unrest in the town.

Although a temporary understanding between police and youth groups allowed traffic and daily activities to resume on Wednesday evening, protesters took to the streets again early Thursday, staging demonstrations and creating a volatile environment.

Authorities have been closely monitoring the area, but the repeated gatherings highlight ongoing political friction and community concerns about public safety.

Earlier on Wednesday, a curfew was imposed in the Simara area after protests under the banner of Gen-Z turned violent, targeting CPN-UML leaders General Secretary Shankar Pokharel and Politburo member Mahesh Basnet.

Meanwhile, authorities have urged all parties to maintain peace. The curfew followed reports that a group, claiming to represent Gen-Z, staged protests at Simara Airport to disrupt the CPN-UML program. Tensions escalated when security personnel clashed with protesters, leading to the temporary halting of a Buddha Air flight scheduled to depart for Kathmandu.
