JANAKPURDHAM: Preparations for the grand Sitaram Bibaha Panchami Mahamotsav, celebrated annually in Janakpurdham, have reached the final stage. The week-long religious festival officially begins on Thursday with the Nagar Darshan procession.
According to the Janaki Temple management, work is progressing rapidly—from cleaning to the construction of decorative pandals—across the Janaki Temple premises, Rangabhoomi Maidan, and the Bahrabigha complex. Streets surrounding the temple are being adorned with electric lights as part of the beautification efforts.
Mahanth Ramroshan Das, the temple’s heir, stated that although the main events of Bibaha Panchami will take place at the Janaki Temple and Bahrabigha Rangabhoomi Maidan, the festival has not received any support from government bodies this year.
In previous years, government agencies contributed financial or logistical assistance, but no such support has been provided this time, he said.
A large number of saints, yogis, ascetics, monks, and nuns from various religious centers in India—including Ayodhya, Rishikesh, and Haridwar—are expected to arrive for the celebrations. The festival, which establishes Janakpurdham as the cultural capital of the Mithila region, has long played a significant role in strengthening Nepal–India religious ties.
The week-long Bibaha Panchami Mahamotsav features a series of traditional rituals: Thursday’s Nagar Darshan, followed by Friday’s Phulbari Leela, Dhanushayya, Teeloktsav, Matkor, and the grand Swayambhar and auspicious wedding.
Every year, lakhs of devotees from across Nepal and India visit Janakpurdham to mark Mangsir Shukla Panchami.
Chief District Officer Prem Prasad Luintel said security arrangements have been tightened for the event. Nepal Police, Armed Police Force, and Traffic Police will be deployed in adequate numbers to manage the large crowds.
