Kathmandu dazzles in lights on Laxmi Puja

KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu Valley is aglow as Tihar, the second major Hindu festival of the year, lights up homes, streets, and entire neighborhoods.

Decorative lamps, diyos, and strings of colorful lights shimmer across the city, creating a spectacular view visible even from nearby hills.

Known as the “Festival of Lights,” Tihar celebrates Goddess Laxmi, the deity of wealth and prosperity. Devotees illuminate their homes to invite her blessings, believing that the glow brings fortune and happiness to their households. The city’s sparkling streets reflect the festive spirit, unity, and joy of the community.

Beyond the visual spectacle, Tihar is a time for prayer, family gatherings, and cultural rituals. The luminous cityscape, echoing with devotional songs and festivities, offers both locals and visitors a chance to experience Kathmandu’s vibrant traditions firsthand.

As night falls, Kathmandu twinkles like a jewel, capturing the essence of Tihar – a celebration of light, life, and prosperity.
