KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Sushila Karki on Monday paid tribute to the late Bipin Joshi by draping the national flag over his body at Tribhuvan International Airport.

Joshi’s mortal remains were brought to Nepal on Monday. During a condolence ceremony held at the airport, Prime Minister Karki expressed her respects to the late Nepali student.

Energy Minister Kulman Ghising, Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal, Communication Minister Jagdish Kharel, Chief Secretary Ek Narayan Aryal, and the Israeli Ambassador to Nepal, among others, also paid tribute and extended condolences to the bereaved family.

Prime Minister Karki said the government had made every effort to bring Bipin home safely but could not succeed. “Bipin was the son of every Nepali mother. No one will ever forget him,” she said.

The government arranged to transport Bipin’s body by a Nepal Army aircraft to Dhangadhi and then to his home in Kanchanpur.

Bipin Joshi had been taken hostage during the Hamas attack on southern Israel on October 7, 2023. The Israeli government officially confirmed his death on October 14, 2025.
