Prachanda’s daughter Ganga Dahal resigns from party chair’s secretariat

KATHMANDU: Ganga Dahal, daughter of CPN (Maoist Centre) coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, has resigned from his secretariat.

Announcing her resignation through a social media post on Sunday, Dahal said she decided to step down amid what she described as a smear campaign and character assassination attempts against her on social media and in some media outlets.

“I had taken responsibility in the chairperson’s secretariat after my brother Prakash Dahal’s demise, as per the party’s decision,” she wrote. “My mother, Sita Dahal, was unwell at the time, so I tried to contribute selflessly while also taking care of her.”

Dahal acknowledged that she may not have been able to meet everyone’s expectations while serving in the secretariat and offered self-criticism.

“I can proudly say that I never acted for personal gain,” she said. “I tried to perform sincerely as a supporter, but no matter how much I avoided controversy, it always seemed to find me.”

Refuting media reports that she owned luxury items such as expensive bags and watches, Dahal said, “Some say I had bags worth millions or a watch worth hundreds of thousands. I never bought such items. Those were birthday gifts from friends, and they were destroyed in a fire long ago, but the same false stories keep being repeated.”

She alleged that a coordinated campaign was being run to target her and, through her, to discredit the Maoist Centre and its chairperson. “In protest against these orchestrated attacks, I have decided to resign from the secretariat,” she wrote.

Dahal, however, said she would continue to remain an active member of the Maoist Centre, “as a responsible cadre for life.”

She also thanked all party leaders, cadres, and members of the public who supported her during her tenure in the secretariat.
