Government initiates efforts to reopen blocked roads

KATHMANDU: The government has begun efforts to clear roads blocked by landslides in various parts of the country.

After landslides disrupted major highways, including the Narayanghat–Muglin section, stranding passengers since Friday night, Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Kulman Ghising convened a meeting with relevant authorities.

The meeting will discuss transport management during the upcoming Dashain and Tihar festivals, and a task force will be formed to address blocked routes.

According to officials, continuous landslides near Twin Khola bridge along the Narayanghat–Muglin road section have obstructed traffic since around 6:30 p.m. Friday. Another major slide occurred at 7:40 a.m. Saturday, further blocking the road.

Currently, three loaders and one excavator have been deployed to clear debris from both sides. If no further landslides occur, traffic movement is expected to resume in about four hours.
