Foreign investment commitments reach Rs 33 billion for 236 projects



KATHMANDU: As of September, a total of 236 projects have secured foreign investment commitments amounting to Rs 33 billion, according to the Department of Industry.

The department’s report on foreign investment approvals for Shrawan and Bhadra shows that 225 small, four medium, and seven large-scale projects have received commitments. By sector, agri-based industries received the largest investment by amount, while information technology projects topped in number. Agri-based projects alone secured commitments worth Rs 21 billion across nine projects.

Similarly, manufacturing industries received Rs 1.24 billion for 12 projects, one energy project secured Rs 18.26 million, and service-based industries received Rs 2.81 billion for 15 projects. The tourism sector saw Rs 6.69 billion committed across 79 projects, while 120 IT projects received Rs 56 million.

In the past two months alone, 409 investors, 60 representatives, and 107 dependents have been granted visa facilities for Nepal, the department said.

Since its inception, the Department of Industry has approved a total of 7,475 projects, with total investment commitments reaching NPR 684 brillion.
