Seven major highways blocked across Nepal due to landslides and floods

KATHMANDU: Continuous rainfall over the past few days has triggered floods and landslides, causing disruptions on seven major highways across the country.

Binod Ghimire, Chief Spokesperson of Nepal Police and Deputy Inspector General, confirmed that efforts are underway to clear the landslides in the affected areas. He reported that the Koshi Highway at Bhotkhola is completely blocked.

Similarly, a section of the Koshi Highway in Makalu Rural Municipality’s Equwa area is also obstructed. On the Siddhicharan Highway, the road in Katari Municipality–8, Sirise, has been blocked due to landslides. Floodwaters have also disrupted traffic on the Miteri Bridge connecting Rasuwā to China.

On the Araniko Highway, landslides in Sindhupalchok’s Bhotekoshi Rural Municipality, at Kodari and Daklang, have blocked both sections.

In Chitwan, a landslide at Tuin Khola in Ichchhakamana Rural Municipality–5 has blocked the Narayangadh–Muglin road. The police reported that the landslide began on Friday evening and continued through Saturday morning, making clearance difficult.

Meanwhile, roads on the Kaligandaki Corridor, Ratna Highway, and the East-West Highway near Galchi–Trishuli have been partially opened, allowing one-way traffic.

Authorities have urged commuters to stay alert and follow updates as clearance operations continue across the affected highways.
