KATHMANDU: A 24-year-old man from Humla has been missing in Kathmandu for the past 11 days after taking part in the Gen-Z protests, his family and community leaders have said.
Thukten Palwar Tamang, originally from Khagalgaun in Namkha Rural Municipality–3, Humla, had been living in Tinchuli, Kathmandu, where he worked at a local hotel. According to his father, Tashi Chiring, Thukten joined demonstrations on September 8 but returned home that evening.
The next day, after finishing his morning shift at the hotel, he left his rented room around 2 pm to join the second day of protests in Bouddha. Since then, he has not returned, his father said. Despite searching across several parts of the city for nearly two weeks, the family has found no trace of him.
“My son went out to participate in the protest and never came back. I urge the authorities to help find him,” Chiring told reporters. He added that Thukten, the younger of his two sons, had completed monastic studies at Narayanthan Gumba before moving to Kathmandu.
The disappearance has drawn concern from the wider Humla community in the capital. The Namkhyoem Humla Bouddha Society issued a public appeal for help in tracing him, while its president, Ang Bahadur Lama, confirmed that the group has submitted a memorandum to Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Kulman Ghising seeking government intervention.
Thukten had been living with his cousin in Tinchuli and was known to be active in social and community affairs. His father fears the young man’s disappearance may be linked to the turbulence of the Gen-Z movement, which has sparked both nationwide solidarity and political tension.
Authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding his whereabouts.
