Health post building in disrepair disrupts services in Myagdi

MYAGDI: Health services have been severely affected in Niskot, Malika Rural Municipality-1, Myagdi, after the local health post building fell into a state of disrepair.

The one-storey building, constructed nearly 30 years ago, has developed significant leaks in its roof, forcing staff to treat patients under makeshift tarpaulin shelters, especially during the rainy season. Health post chief Ajit BK said the leaking roof has been a recurring issue for the past three years.

“The building is in poor condition, and we’re compelled to treat patients under tarpaulins when it rains,” said BK. “It’s difficult to provide quality healthcare in such conditions. Since the tarpaulins are temporary and not durable, we’ve requested additional ones from the ward office again this year.”

All services—from check-ups and general treatment to medicine distribution—are being delivered under these temporary tarpaulin-covered areas. The building’s four rooms are cramped, further complicating service delivery.

Despite the challenges, the health post has recently begun offering maternity services and is currently serving between 150 and 200 patients per month. The building was originally constructed in 2050 BS (1993/94 AD).

Ward chairman of Malika Rural Municipality-1, Tanka Prasad Pun, said that plans to construct a new building have been delayed due to the unavailability of suitable land.
