KATHMANDU: The Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) has strongly objected to the ruling parties’ move to collect signatures aimed at removing Deputy Speaker Indira Rana Magar after failing to secure a majority in the Constitutional Council.
Speaking during Tuesday’s session of the House of Representatives, RPP lawmaker Roshan Karki accused the Nepali Congress and CPN-UML of orchestrating the signature campaign to pave the way for an impeachment motion against the Deputy Speaker.
“Yesterday, the entire day was filled with theatrics. We heard that UML and Nepali Congress forced their lawmakers to sign blank papers. And for what? To file an impeachment against the Deputy Speaker,” she said. “They failed to secure a majority in the Constitutional Council, so they planned to oust her in order to make appointments for their own people. What kind of party collects signatures on blank papers? And what kind of lawmakers sign them? Shame on them.”
Karki further accused the two ruling parties of shielding Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak, who has been linked to the ongoing “visit visa” scandal.
“Your Home Minister is running a business out of visit visas, turning it into a money-making machine,” she charged. “Yet Congress and UML are busy protecting him.”
Following the protest, both RPP and the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) once again boycotted the parliamentary session, as they had in the previous meeting.
