Monsoon gradually weakening across the country

KATHMANDU: The Weather Forecasting Division has reported a gradual weakening of the monsoon in Nepal, as the low-pressure trough has shifted south of its average position.

However, moisture-laden air from the Bay of Bengal continues to enter the country.

This afternoon, generally cloudy conditions are expected in the hilly regions, including Lumbini, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim provinces, while the rest of the country will see partly cloudy skies.

There is a possibility of moderate rainfall in parts of the hilly areas of these provinces, along with isolated showers in the Terai.

Tonight, the weather will remain generally cloudy in the hilly areas of Koshi, Madhes, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces, and partly cloudy elsewhere.

Moderate rainfall is expected in some Terai and hilly areas of Madhes, Koshi, Bagmati, and Gandaki provinces. Additionally, one or two locations in the hilly regions of Koshi and Gandaki may experience heavy rainfall.

The Division has advised the public to remain alert and prepared, warning of potential landslides and debris flows in mountainous areas.

Rising water levels in rivers and streams could pose flood risks, and travel and transport services may be disrupted in affected regions.
