KATHMANDU: Kyle Davis and Ena emerged victorious in the men’s and women’s categories respectively in the Inspire to Run 5-kilometer race, held Saturday at Adventure Park in Mechanicsburg, USA.
Davis clinched the men’s title with a winning time of 21 minutes and 31 seconds, outperforming all other participants. Nepali-speaking Saugat Adhikari finished second with an impressive time of 21 minutes and 57 seconds, followed by Ben in third place at 23 minutes and 39 seconds.
In the women’s category, Ena secured first place, completing the race in 24 minutes and 7 seconds with a strong and consistent performance.
The event, held under the theme “Sports for Mental and Physical Health,” saw participation from athletes not only from Harrisburg and Mechanicsburg but also from various states across the U.S.
The event was a part of a broader initiative led by Inspire to Explore, an organization dedicated to promoting social unity, health awareness, and community engagement among Nepali and Nepali-speaking communities in the United States.
“Inspire to Explore” president Nilhari Bhandari emphasized the importance of such events for individual and community well-being. “Sports are not only a source of physical fitness but also promote mental balance and social unity,” he said. “Activities like running build self-confidence, reduce stress, and foster leadership and a sense of responsibility among youth.”
Tilak Niraula, president of the Bhutanese Community of Harrisburg, also lauded the initiative, saying such events send a powerful message of unity. “Programs like these bring communities together and encourage youth to engage in creative and constructive efforts,” he said.
“They provide the younger generation an opportunity to understand their responsibilities toward their community and enhance civic participation.”
The event was organized by Inspire to Explore in collaboration with Nepali and Nepali-speaking students from Penn State College and the Asian Refugee Association.
Organizers have committed to continuing similar events in the future, with a focus on community upliftment, health promotion, and fostering a positive mindset.
