Top leaders of major parties hold talks in Singha Durbar

KATHMANDU: Top leaders of the country’s three major political parties have convened for talks at Singha Durbar on Friday to discuss issues related to transitional justice.

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, Nepali Congress President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, and CPN (Maoist Centre) Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ are participating in the meeting, which is currently underway.

According to Dahal’s secretariat, the discussions are focused on unresolved matters concerning Nepal’s transitional justice process — a key element of the post-conflict peace process that has seen limited progress over the years.

Prime Minister Oli had initially called for a meeting of top leaders on Wednesday. However, the meeting was postponed as Maoist Centre Chair Dahal was outside the Kathmandu Valley. The delay continued into Thursday as Dahal had not yet returned to the capital.

With all three leaders present today, the talks are being closely watched, particularly as the government faces growing pressure to move forward on delivering justice to victims of the decade-long Maoist insurgency.
