Deal with Maoists enough, no need for talks with others: Mahesh Bartaula

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Chief Whip Mahesh Bartaula on Friday said that the government does not need to reach a separate agreement with every political party regarding the ongoing ‘visit visa’ controversy, as an understanding has already been reached with the main opposition, CPN (Maoist Centre).

Speaking to journalists at the Federal Parliament Building in New Baneshwar, Bartaula stated that the investigation into the visa scandal will move forward in line with the agreement with the Maoist Centre, asserting that the government will not engage in piecemeal deals with different parties or individuals.

“In a parliamentary system, it is the main opposition that matters most,” said Bartaula, clarifying that the agreement with the Maoist Centre will be sufficient to resolve the issue and move the House proceedings forward.

He also criticized the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) for continuing symbolic protests, including wearing black attire and blue ribbons, despite the government’s stated commitment to address their concerns.

Bartaula accused the RSP of attempting to create unnecessary drama and claimed that the party’s behavior reflects a failure to understand parliamentary norms.

“Their style will end up consuming the party itself,” he said.
