EC consults Prime Minister on by-elections



KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) held consultations with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli today regarding the by-elections for vacant seats in the House of Representatives, Provincial Assembly, and the National Assembly.

Acting Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari, along with other commissioners, met Prime Minister Oli at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers in Singha Durbar.

The discussion focused on conducting by-elections for the vacant seats in the House of Representatives and the Provincial Assembly in the last week of October, and elections for 18 vacant seats in the National Assembly in March next year.

The Commission, in consultation with the Government of Nepal, is preparing to announce the by-election date by June 30. The vacant seats include Rupandehi Constituency No. 3 in the House of Representatives and Manang Constituency No. 1 (2) in the Gandaki Provincial Assembly. Additionally, there are 13 vacant ward chairperson posts at the local level.

Prime Minister Oli assured the Commission of the government’s full support in facilitating the elections. He also emphasized the need for the Commission to begin preparations for the upcoming periodic elections.

The meeting was attended by Commissioners Dr. Janaki Kumari Tuladhar and Sagun Shumsher Rana, along with senior officials from the Prime Minister’s Office.
