KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu District Administration Office (DAO) has lifted the restriction on public gatherings and protest activities in areas inside the Ring Road and its adjoining public spaces.
The restrictions were initially imposed on June 1 in response to the growing royalist movement, declaring the ring road and areas within it as restricted zones for protests and assemblies. However, the administration has now officially withdrawn the order.
A notice issued by the Assistant Chief District Officer states: “As per the order dated 2082/02/18, a prohibition was imposed on organizing protest programs—including hunger strikes, sit-ins, gheraos, processions, demonstrations, and assemblies—in public places within and along the ring road, except in designated areas.”
It added, “This is to inform that the order is no longer in effect, and programs may now be conducted in coordination with the District Administration Office.”
