SC defers habeas corpus hearing for Rabi Lamichhane and Chhabilal Joshi to Wednesday

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has deferred the habeas corpus petition filed in relation to Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chair Rabi Lamichhane and former DIG Chhabilal Joshi.

The petition was reviewed by a joint bench of Justices Nakul Subedi and Bal Krishna Dhakal on Tuesday. After a preliminary hearing, the case was placed under review (hearing deferred).

The petitions concerning Lamichhane and Joshi—his business partner at Gorkha Media—were heard together before the bench decided to continue proceedings on Wednesday.

The court now has the authority to overturn the earlier decision by the Butwal bench of the High Court Dang, which had ordered continued detention, and instead uphold the original order of the district court. If the Supreme Court rules in their favor, both Lamichhane and Joshi could be released from Bhairahawa prison.
