Cabinet meeting taking place today

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has called a cabinet meeting to be held today at 6 p.m., following a meeting of the Nepal Rastra Bank’s Governor Recommendation Committee.

The cabinet meeting, originally scheduled for Monday, was postponed. It was rescheduled after Prime Minister Oli held talks with ruling party president Sher Bahadur Deuba.

Finance Minister Bishnu Poudel and senior leader Ramesh Lekhak were also present at the meeting.

A decision regarding the appointment of the Nepal Rastra Bank governor is expected to be made during the cabinet meeting.

According to sources at Baluwatar, Prime Minister Oli is prepared to move forward based on President Deuba’s proposal. “The process is now close to completion,” a source said.

The Nepali Congress has proposed Bishwa Poudel as the next governor. Poudel has already resigned from the recommendation committee in preparation for the appointment.
