Chinese contractor expresses concern over Public Accounts Committee report on Pokhara Airport

KATHMANDU: The Chinese company China CAMC Engineering Co. Ltd. (CAMCE), which constructed Pokhara Regional International Airport, has expressed surprise and concern over media coverage citing the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) report of Nepal’s Federal Parliament.

In a public notice published in Gorkhapatra today, CAMCE claimed that the report contains numerous inaccuracies and lacks thorough investigation and objective analysis.

“The sections of the PAC report relating to our company do not fully align with facts,” the company stated. “Citing this report without proper scrutiny of the entire implementation process of the project is highly surprising and seriously concerning to us.”

CAMCE highlighted that, as a professional and responsible international engineering contractor, it strictly adhered to all legal and regulatory requirements of the Nepal government during the tender, contract, and implementation phases of the airport project. The company noted that all relevant documents are safely archived.

Highlighting the operational performance of Pokhara International Airport, CMCE described it as Nepal’s most modern airport, which has operated continuously for 28 months without any incidents.

Regarding tax matters, CAMCE mentioned it followed the provisions agreed upon between the governments of Nepal and China, asserting that tax exemptions in intergovernmental cooperative projects are consistent with international standards.
