U.S. Supreme Court allows Trump administration to begin deportation of 350,000 Venezuelans

WASHINGTON DC: The U.S. Supreme Court has granted permission to the Trump administration to initiate the deportation process for approximately 350,000 Venezuelans residing in the United States.

This decision comes after a California judge had issued a circular last month allowing individuals whose legal status had expired to remain in the U.S. under Temporary Protected Status (TPS).

TPS is granted to individuals from countries experiencing war, natural disasters, or other extraordinary conditions that make it unsafe for them to return.

President Donald Trump had proposed ending TPS protections for Venezuelans by April 2025, while the affected individuals had sought to extend the protection until at least 2026.
