Habeas Corpus Petition Filed in Supreme Court on Behalf of Rabi Lamichhane

KATHMANDU: A habeas corpus petition has been filed at the Supreme Court on behalf of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) chair Rabi Lamichhane, who is currently in custody over a cooperative fraud case.

Lamichhane, who is being held at the Bhairahawa prison as per the decision of the Butwal bench of the High Court Tulsipur on Chaitra 22, claims his detention is unlawful. The petition seeks his immediate release.

The Supreme Court has scheduled a hearing on the petition for Monday.

Earlier, the Rupandehi District Court had released Lamichhane on Magh 13 upon posting a bail of Rs 10 million. However, the High Court overturned that decision and ordered his detention.

The Supreme Court has already instructed both the High Court and the District Court to submit case-related documents, including explanation reports, for further review.
