Govt forms high-level task force to implement structural reforms

KATHMANDU: The government has decided to form a high-level task force to implement recommendations for merging, abolishing, or transferring various structures established for similar functions.

This decision follows the study report from the Public Expenditure Review Commission and the High-Level Economic Reform Suggestion Commission.

At a press conference held at Singha Durbar on Thursday, government spokesperson Prithvi Subba Gurung announced the decision, which was made during the Council of Ministers meeting on February 19.

The task force will focus on streamlining administrative structures to enhance efficiency and reduce redundancy.

In the same meeting, Arjun Babu Dhakal was appointed as the General Manager of the Water Supply Corporation. The Council of Ministers also approved the visit of the Foreign Minister to participate in the 58th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, beginning February 24.

Additionally, the Council approved a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on tourism cooperation between Nepal and Oman.

It also ratified an agreement between Nepal and the United States to prohibit the transportation and import of archaeological and community culture-related items.

The meeting further approved the submission of a bill to amend the Human Trafficking and Smuggling (Control) Act, 2007, to the Parliament. It also endorsed the Industrial Business (First Amendment) Regulations.

These decisions are part of the government’s broader effort to enhance administrative efficiency and strengthen international cooperation in tourism, cultural preservation, and human rights.
