Foreign Trade increases by 13.30% in first seven months of current fiscal year



KATHMANDU: Nepal’s foreign trade witnessed a 13.30% increase in the first seven months of the current fiscal year compared to the same period last year, according to data released by the Customs Department.

Both imports and exports saw a notable rise during this period.

Foreign trade during the first seven months of the previous fiscal year was valued at Rs. 984.77 billion, whereas it reached Rs. 1.11 trillion in the current fiscal year.

Imports increased by 10.09% in the first seven months, with goods worth Rs. 988.59 billion imported by January. In the same period last year, imports were valued at Rs. 897.94 billion.

Exports from Nepal surged by 46.50%, with goods worth Rs. 127.20 billion exported as of January, compared to Rs. 86.84 billion during the same period in the previous fiscal year.

Diesel was the most imported item, totaling Rs. 66.48 billion, followed by petrol worth Rs. 37.64 billion, cooking gas worth Rs. 35.48 billion, soybean oil raw materials worth Rs. 31.69 billion, and iron raw materials worth Rs. 29.95 billion.

Soybean oil was the top export, valued at Rs. 32.41 billion, followed by sunflower oil and seeds worth Rs. 6.57 billion. Other major exported items include cardamom, carpets, black tea, iron rods, and other items.

The increase in both imports and exports highlights Nepal’s growing trade activity, reflecting a positive trend in the national economy.
