Prakriti Lamsal cremated at Swargadwari Ghat
Prakriti Lamsal, the Nepali student who passed away at the Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) in Odisha, India, was cremated at Swargadwari Ghat.
Her grandfather, Devnath Lamsal, performed the final rites.
Lamsal’s body was brought to Rupandehi on Wednesday and taken to Bhairahawa for a circumambulation before being transported to Swargadwari Ghat for cremation.
NC President Deuba’s India visit cancelled
Nepali Congress (NC) President Sher Bahadur Deuba’s planned visit to India has been postponed.
Although Deuba was scheduled to depart for India on Thursday, he will no longer be attending the event, confirmed Congress Publicity Department Chief Min Bishwakarma.
Deuba was set to participate as a speaker at the Kumbh Global Summit on Development and Sustainability, which was to be held in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh.
One killed, one injured in Kavre bus accident
A bus accident occurred this morning at Temal Rural Municipality-3, Kundal, resulting in one fatality and one person critically injured.
According to the District Police Office, Ram Singh Tamang, 50, from Temal Rural Municipality-1, died at the scene.
The bus driver, Krishna Balan, 50, from Bagmati Rural Municipality in Makawanpur, sustained critical injuries and is currently receiving treatment at Dhulikhel Hospital.
Gold and silver prices rise
The prices of gold and silver have seen a modest increase in the local market today.
According to the Federation of Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association, the price of gold has gone up by Rs 500 per tola, while silver has increased by Rs 10.
As of today, one tola of gold is priced at Rs 171,000, up from Rs 170,500 on Wednesday.
Concerns of Nepali students in Odisha addressed through diplomatic talks: Foreign Minister
Foreign Minister Dr Arzu Rana stated that the Nepalese government is taking the death of Prakriti Lamsal, a student at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) in Odisha, India, seriously and is working to resolve the matter through diplomatic channels.
Upon returning from the 8th Indian Ocean Conference in Muscat, Oman, Rana informed reporters at Tribhuvan International Airport that she had spoken to Odisha’s Higher Education Minister, Suryavanshi Suraj, urging a fair investigation into the incident and legal action against those responsible. She also emphasized the importance of ensuring a safe environment for Nepali students in Odisha.
She said Minister Suraj assured that the Odisha government is taking the case seriously, forming a high-level investigation committee to pursue justice for Prakriti and take action against the culprits.
KIIT establishes scholarship fund in memory of Prakriti Lamsal
The Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, India, has announced the establishment of a scholarship fund in memory of Nepali student Prakriti Lamsal, who was found dead in her hostel room on Sunday.
The scholarship fund was established following a meeting between the KIIT leadership and Prakriti’s father, Sunil Lamsal, and her uncle.
KIIT founder Achyuta Samanta made the announcement, expressing condolences and pledging support for Nepali students studying at the institution.
