KATHMANDU: UML General Secretary Shankar Pokharel has claimed that the party is under a cyber attack.
In a social media post on Monday, Pokharel stated that a targeted cyber campaign is being carried out against UML to weaken the party and prevent the formation of a strong national political force in Nepal.
“A cyber attack is currently being orchestrated against CPN-UML. Its purpose is to weaken the UML and obstruct the creation of a strong national force in Nepal,” he wrote. “The flood of misinformation and disinformation seems to be aimed at achieving this goal. Through the party’s three-month root-focused campaign, UML must counter this and create an environment conducive to the smooth practice of democracy in the country.”
In a detailed post titled, Pokharel further argued, “While discussing the need for strong political parties over multiple smaller ones for the development and prosperity of the country, there are efforts to interpret this against UML’s ideological stance. Nepal’s constitution recognizes the socialist orientation of the state’s character, suggesting that the number of political parties should align with this constitutional spirit, and thus, cannot be excessively high.”
