KATHMANDU: The government has appointed Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) board member Amritman Shrestha as the acting Executive Director of the national flag carrier.
Announcing the decisions of the Cabinet meeting held on November 18, Minister for Communication and Information Technology, Jagadish Kharel, said Shrestha will serve as acting Executive Director until the ongoing selection process for a full-time Managing Director is completed.
The Cabinet also approved the promotion of two Nepal Army Major Generals to the rank of Lieutenant General.
In another decision, the government formed a negotiation team led by an Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Finance to hold talks with the World Bank regarding the proposed concessional loan of 95 million US dollars for sustainable and inclusive projects.
The Cabinet granted approval for the participation of Secretary Govinda Bahadur Karki from the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers in the 11th Session of the Conference of the States Parties to the UN Convention against Corruption to be held in Doha, Qatar, from December 15 to 19.
Similarly, Industry Secretary Krishna Bahadur Raut was approved to attend the 11th Ministerial Conference of the Least Developed Countries in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, on November 22.
Women, Children and Senior Citizens Ministry Secretary Laxmi Kumari Basnet received approval to attend a program in Seoul, South Korea, from December 1 to 3.
The Cabinet decided to host the Sixth Meeting of the Land Forces Talks (LFT) in Kathmandu from November 19 to 21.
Kharel informed that the government has recommended to the President the issuance of the Constitutional Council (Functions, Duties, Rights and Procedures) First Amendment Ordinance, 2082, as well as an ordinance to amend the Nepal Special Service Act, 2042.
The Cabinet also gave theoretical approval to draft the Hydrology and Meteorology Bill.
Four Malaysian nationals who had been residing in Nepal without valid visas have been allowed to depart after the government waived all overdue fees and penalties.
The government approved permission for former Nepali Ambassador to Japan, Dr. Madan Kumar Bhattarai, to receive Japan’s Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Star, and for former embassy staffer Ramasundari Joshi to accept the Order of the Sacred Treasure, Gold and Silver Rays.
The meeting endorsed the Armed Police Force (Fourth Amendment) Regulations, 2082, and approved the allocation of 15–13–3–2 ropani of public land in Darchula (former Dhap VDC-4) for use by the Darchula Customs Office.
The Cabinet also granted prior approval for an Organization and Management Survey (O&M) of bodies under the Ministry of Forests and Environment.
Additionally, the meeting decided to rename Marchwari Rural Municipality in Rupandehi as Marchwarimai Rural Municipality, and to shift its center from Ward No. 3 Raipur to Ward No. 4 Khaira.
