Maoist’s role has increased amid complex situation: Prachanda

LALITPUR: Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, Coordinator of Maoist Centre, has said that the country is currently facing an extraordinary and complex situation, and that the party’s role has become more crucial in these difficult circumstances.

Speaking at a tea reception and greetings exchange program organized by the Maoist Centre Lalitpur Metropolitan City Committee on the occasion of Nepal Sambat 1146 at Mahalaxmisthan today, Dahal said the party has issued a 10-point directive to guide its work during this critical time.

“On September 8, Gen-Z youth expressed their love for the country and politics by raising their voice against injustice, corruption, and misgovernance. However, the events of September 9 showed us the dangers of certain negative trends gaining ground in the country. We must be mindful of this,” he said. “Following that, we all played a role in helping restore order and end the state of political uncertainty.”

Dahal noted that the demands raised by the Gen-Z movement align closely with the party’s own agenda and emphasized the need for the Maoist Centre to transform itself in line with the aspirations of the youth.

“The Maoist party is one that can adapt to changing times. We are in regular dialogue with the youth. They must understand this—by even amending the constitution if necessary.”

He stressed the need to educate both the general public and the youth on key issues such as good governance, social justice, a directly elected executive president, and a fully proportional electoral system.

Dahal also claimed that false narratives and conspiracies were being spread against former Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara by reactionary and counter-revolutionary forces. He added that it is not the role of journalists to decide who should lead political parties, as such matters are for party members to determine internally.
