Rajakot emerging as promising tourist destination in Dang

TULSIPUR: Rajakot, located in Dangisharan Rural Municipality-2 in Dang, is rapidly gaining attention as a potential hub for tourism.

Offering panoramic views of majestic peaks such as Sisne Himal, Putha Himal, and Machhapuchhre, Rajakot also provides sweeping vistas of the entire Dang Valley, as well as scenic sights of the Babai and Rapti rivers and parts of Banke district.

According to Prakash Dangi, a resident of Goltakuri, Rajakot has recently seen a rise in tourist visits. “This area is stunning for sightseeing. With proper development, it can become a major tourist center,” he said.

Local resident Chakramilan Bishwakarma shared that Rajakot is believed to be the place where King Dangisharan took shelter after contracting malaria. The area is also home to an old telecommunications tower, adding to its historic value.

Rajakot can be reached by a five-kilometer uphill walk from Goltakuri. Deviram Kusari, another local, noted that Tilakanya Naka, a route frequently used by residents of Rukum, Salyan, and Rolpa when traveling to markets, passes through Rajakot and holds great tourism potential.

This past Saturday, groups of domestic tourists took part in hiking excursions, reaching Rajakot within two hours on foot. Ramesh Bhandari, spokesperson for Dangisharan Rural Municipality, stated that local authorities have begun initiatives to promote and develop Rajakot as a key tourist destination.

With natural beauty, cultural history, and accessibility, Rajakot is poised to become a highlight in Dang’s tourism landscape.
