Prachanda opposes plan to remove Deputy Speaker



KATHMANDU: Pushpa Kamal Dahal, chair of the main opposition Maoist Center, has opposed attempts by the ruling parties to remove Deputy Speaker Indira Rana Magar.

Speaking to journalists at the party office in Paris Danda on Tuesday, Dahal said that the Nepali Congress and CPN-UML would be making a mistake by trying to oust the Deputy Speaker, and that the Maoist Center would actively resist such efforts.

He criticized the current coalition government led by KP Sharma Oli, stating that it has accomplished little beyond mistakes since coming to power.

Dahal also condemned the attempt to remove a socially active indigenous woman from her position, calling it unjustified. He further described the allegations against Deputy Speaker Rana as fabricated. The controversy stems from her previous action of writing a letter to the U.S. Embassy concerning unrelated individuals, which drew her into public scrutiny.
