Heavy rain likely in parts of Koshi and Gandaki provinces



KATHMANDU: Monsoon winds continue to affect the country, with the monsoon’s low-pressure line currently situated near the average position.

According to the Weather Forecasting Division, at present, the weather is partly to generally cloudy across the hilly regions and partly cloudy in other parts of the country. Light to moderate rainfall is occurring in a few areas of Koshi, Bagmati, and Karnali Provinces.

This afternoon, skies are expected to remain partly to generally cloudy nationwide. There is a likelihood of light to heavy  rain accompanied by thunder and lightning in several hilly areas of Koshi, Bagmati, Gandaki, and Sudurpaschim Provinces, and in isolated areas of other regions. Light to moderate rain or snowfall is also expected in some high-hill and mountainous areas.

Tonight, the weather will remain partly to generally cloudy. Light to moderate rain with thunder/lightning is likely in many areas of Koshi and Madhesh Provinces, some parts of Bagmati and Gandaki Provinces, and isolated places elsewhere.

The Division has also warned of a possibility of heavy rainfall in one or two locations in Koshi and Gandaki Provinces, as well as light to moderate rain/snowfall in parts of the high-hilly and mountainous regions.

It has urged the public and relevant authorities to remain alert, citing risks of soil erosion, flooding, landslides, and flash floods.

Urban and Terai areas may experience localized flooding, and water levels in rivers and streams could rise. The weather may also impact daily life, agriculture, health services, tourism, construction, road and air transportation, with potential for localized windstorms.
