Flood Division urges alert in 56 districts including Kathmandu



KATHMANDU: The Flood Forecasting Division under the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has issued a flood alert for Thursday, warning of rising water levels in several rivers across the country.

According to the Division, river flow is expected to increase significantly in districts including Ilam, Jhapa, Morang, Sunsari, Saptari, Gorkha, Lamjung, Kaski, Syangja, Kailali, Kanchanpur, and surrounding areas.

The Division has warned of possible flash floods in some locations and urged people living near riverbanks to remain alert.

Widespread rainfall is forecast across all provinces, with the possibility of very heavy rainfall in four of them.

The Division has also advised maintaining general vigilance in riverbank areas of 56 districts including Panchthar, Tehrathum, Taplejung, Sankhuwasabha, Khotang, Okhaldhunga, Solukhumbu, Dolakha, Ramechhap, Dhading, Nuwakot, Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, and Kavrepalanchok.

Likewise, other districts include, Sindhuli, Makawanpur, Udayapur, Siraha, Dhanusha, Mahottari, Tanahun, Parbat, Baglung, Myagdi, Parsa, Chitwan, East and West Nawalpur, Gulmi, Arghakhanchi, Palpa, Rupandehi, Kapilvastu, Dang, Pyuthan, Rolpa, Banke, Bardiya, Surkhet, Achham, Dailekh, Darchula, Doti, and Dadeldhura. Rising river levels in these areas could pose a risk of flooding.
