Floods and landslides block Narayangadh-Butwal road

Authorities advise use of alternative routes

NAWALPARASI: Continuous rainfall over the past several days has triggered floods and landslides, leading to the closure of the Narayangadh-Butwal section of the East-West Highway.

The District Police Office, Nawalparasi (Bardaghat Susta East), has issued a notice on Thursday urging commuters to use alternative routes until the road is cleared and safe for travel.

According to the police, the rising water level in the Binayi River has damaged a road diversion, while landslides and slippery conditions in areas such as Bishwakarma Temple and Jhyukhola along the Dumkibas-Daunne section have caused several vehicles to skid and get stuck.

In light of these conditions, the police have advised that vehicles traveling from east to west should reroute through Narayangadh, Mugling, Pokhara, Syangja, and then proceed to Butwal.

Similarly, vehicles heading west from Kathmandu must also follow the Mugling–Pokhara–Syangja route to reach Butwal. Vehicles traveling from west to east are instructed to take the same detour, passing through Butwal, Syangja, Pokhara, and Mugling to reach Narayangadh.

For small vehicles, depending on the local situation, the Gaindakot–Pipaldanda road section under the Kaligandaki Corridor may serve as an alternative route.

Authorities have urged the public to remain cautious and stay informed through official updates regarding road conditions and travel advisories.
