Nepal qualifies for ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier for the first time

KATHMANDU: Nepal has made history by securing a spot in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier for the first time ever.

Nepal achieved this milestone after defeating the United Arab Emirates (UAE) by five wickets in the Super 3 stage of the Asia Qualifier on Monday.

Chasing a target of 115 runs set by the UAE, Nepal reached the total in 19.3 overs, losing five wickets. Captain Indu Barma led the chase with an unbeaten 34 runs.

Earlier, the UAE posted 114 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. UAE captain Esha Oza top-scored with 39 runs, while Theertha Satish and Heena Hotchandani contributed 21 and 20 runs respectively.

For Nepal, Manisha Upadhyay delivered a stellar bowling performance, taking 4 wickets for 20 runs in her 4 overs. Kabita Kunwar claimed 2 wickets, and Rajmati Airee took 1 wicket.

Nepal is scheduled to play Thailand on Tuesday. However, the result of that match will not impact Nepal’s qualification for the global stage.
