Cabinet meeting scheduled for this evening

KATHMANDU: A cabinet meeting is set to take place this evening, according to the secretariat of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. The meeting is scheduled for around 5 p.m. on Monday, though the venue—either Baluwatar or Singha Durbar—has yet to be confirmed.

One of the key agendas of today’s meeting is likely the appointment of the governor of Nepal Rastra Bank. The ruling coalition parties, Nepali Congress and CPN-UML, have reportedly agreed to appoint economist Dr. Bishwa Poudel to the position.

Dr. Poudel, who previously served as a member of the central bank’s recommendation committee, resigned from the post to become eligible for the governorship. Following his resignation, the government appointed Dr. Poshraj Pandey to the committee.

Nepal Rastra Bank has been operating without a governor for an extended period, as the appointment has been pending.
