Lumbini Women’s Football Tournament will help produce national players: Minister Chaudhary

BANKE: Minister for Youth and Sports Teju Lal Chaudhary has said that tournaments like the International Invitational Lumbini Cup Women’s Football Tournament can play a significant role in encouraging young athletes and producing national-level footballers.

Inaugurating the tournament on Friday, Minister Chaudhary highlighted the potential of players in Nepal’s western regions.

“There are talented players in the western belt of the country. They can create an identity in the nation and abroad if we provide adequate opportunity to them,” he said, adding that the tournament sends a positive message about women’s participation in sports.

In the opening match held after the inauguration, Tribhuvan Army Club secured a place in the semi-finals with a dominant 4–0 victory over Sudurpaschim. The match was played on a knockout basis.

The tournament, which features a total of eight teams, will run until April 25. The winning team will be awarded Rs 505,555 along with a trophy and medals, while the runner-up will receive Rs 250,000, a trophy, and medals.
