FNCCI chair urges Nepalis abroad to invest in Nepal

KATHMADU: Chair of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), Chandra Prasad Dhakal, has urged Nepalis working abroad to invest in Nepal, highlighting the country’s untapped investment opportunities.

Speaking at the first convention organized by Baglung Sewa Samaj Qatar in Doha on Friday evening, Dhakal emphasized that Nepal holds immense potential for growth in sectors such as hydropower, tourism, and industry.

He said the prevailing narrative that “nothing is possible in Nepal” is misleading and fails to recognize the possibilities that exist within the country.

“A false and negative narrative has been created that there is no future in Nepal,” said Dhakal. “Many compare Nepal with the developed infrastructure and technology abroad and then criticize it. But if we put in the same effort in Nepal that we put into our jobs abroad, we can achieve remarkable results.”

Dhakal announced that a Nepal Development Company has been established with a capital of Rs 10 billion to offer investment avenues for Nepalis working overseas. He encouraged foreign-based Nepalis to invest through the company, which plans to channel collective capital into promising sectors across the country.

The FNCCI chairman also commended Baglung residents in Qatar for setting up a revolving fund under their corporate social responsibility. Appreciating their initiative, Dhakal pledged a personal contribution of Rs 1.5 million to the fund. He was also honored at the event for his contributions and as a fellow Baglung native.

Dhakal’s call for investment is seen as part of a broader effort to mobilize the financial strength of the Nepali diaspora and steer it toward national development.
