Ram Kumari Jhakri urges teachers to end protest

KATHMANDU: Unified Socialist Party leader Ram Kumari Jhakri has called on protesting teachers to abandon their Kathmandu-centric agitation and return to their schools, arguing that the solution lies in dialogue, not in the streets.

In a strongly worded post on social media, Jhakri criticized the ongoing teachers’ movement, accusing them of being unwilling to engage in meaningful resolution efforts despite the government’s stated commitment to pass the Education Act.

“Teachers who draw salaries from the state cannot say they won’t return until the bill is passed,” she wrote, referring to the Education Bill currently under discussion in a parliamentary committee. “Will the bill be passed on the streets?”

She also defended the delay in the bill’s passage, noting that parliamentary discussions and necessary amendments take time.

“The process is moving forward through the committee. Parliament and the government’s laws will determine the bill’s timeline,” she added.
