NC holding Central Executive Committee on March 23

KATHMANDU: The ruling Nepali Congress has called a meeting of its central executive committee to determine an official position on the growing activities of monarchist forces advocating for the reinstatement of former King Gyanendra Shah.

A meeting of party officials at NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba’s residence in Budhanilkantha decided to convene the central executive committee meeting on March 23 to review the momentum of the monarchist movement.

Nepali Congress spokesperson Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat confirmed the decision saying, “The executive committee meeting will be held on March 23 to assess the situation and take necessary action.”

Mahat also mentioned that the party leadership briefly discussed recent monarchist activities.

“We have already established the constitution, one that was created by the people and endorsed by nearly 90% of the elected representatives. The government operates under this constitution, and we are committed to safeguarding these achievements,” Mahat stated.

The upcoming meeting will focus on determining how the party should respond to the rising monarchist movement.
